What Is a Lamella Clarifier?

A lamella clarifier (also called an inclined plate settler or tube settler clarifier) is a high-efficiency sedimentation unit used in water and wastewater treatment. It uses a series of closely spaced inclined plates or tubes to dramatically increase the effective settling area of a clarifier without increasing its footprint.

Coagulated and flocculated water enters from below the plate pack. Suspended solids settle onto the inclined plates and slide down into a sludge hopper, while clarified water rises and overflows at the surface. A well-designed lamella clarifier can achieve the same settling performance as a conventional clarifier at 1/3rd to 1/5th of the tank area.
